Your Guide to the Journey
History and Vision
Journey to the Truth was born when a professor and a college student noticed a great need for a place where anyone can learn about Scripture and the Christian worldview. This also needed to be a place that relied on the most credible, scholarly sources to retain credibility. The problem: These sources are hard to find and only accessible to enrolled students at a university or people who have subscriptions to certain websites. Subsequently, Dr. Joseph Matos and Christian Englert co-founded this site with the purpose of helping people learn about the ultimate truth that governs the universe and apply it to their lives.
We intend to provide teaching on an array of biblical topics and point users to verified and scholarly sources. From devotionals, informational editorials, articles, podcasts, etc., we hope to help people discover all they need about their topic of interest. At the same time, we understand that certain users will want to know more about biblical and worldview topics than others. Thus, we will structure our content to serve this need.
Beliefs
- We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and the only way to God. (John 14:6)
- We affirm the atonement provided by Jesus Christ and believe that salvation is achieved by grace through faith. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
- We uphold the doctrine of the Trinity and believe in its persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:20)
- We believe that all truth is God’s truth. And while truth may be discovered in different ways, the Holy Bible is inspired by God and authoritative in every topic that we cover on this website. (2 Timothy 3:16)
Content Roadmap
All the content at journeytothetruth.org is designed with the purpose of pointing visitors to the truth. In some cases, it is the truth surrounding a certain topic within Christianity or philosophy. Regardless of the particular piece of content, however, our desire is for it to meet visitors where they are on their journey toward truth and allow them to go deeper.
Considering this, every piece of content (except Book Reviews) will be structured in “layers.” In the first section, our goal is to give readers only what they need to know about the topic at hand. Following this, our content will have a second section that visitors can go through if they wish to read deeper. Occasionally, content on complex topics may contain a third section as well.
Another characteristic of our content is that it will be based on the best sources we can find. The team at Journey to the Truth has noticed a big gap between scholarship and everyday seekers of truth. While this gap should not be seen as a fault of either side, we want to connect every reader to the best teaching on the truth that governs creation. We intend to take from these sources and communicate their principles as clearly as possible.
Devotionals:
Devotionals will be a primary piece of content on our website. Of course, a priority on our website is to teach the Bible and its context in a way that is accessible to everyone. Our devotionals will go a step further to make sure this goal is accomplished. But it is also important that we demonstrate how Scripture can be applied to everyday life. We hope readers will walk away with an understanding of how to incorporate the principles from a devotional into their everyday lives.
Bible Breakdowns:
Bible Breakdowns will be a core component of our website. These are articles that essentially serve as an overview of a book or chapter in the Bible, and they are designed to present the context and function of the passage that is assessed. There can not be enough emphasis placed on the importance of Christians knowing the background of biblical passages and how they function. Such knowledge helps readers gain clarity and connect them together. The outcome is an ability to understand Scripture with clarity and apply it to everyday life.
Christian Doctrine Breakdowns:
Similar to Bible Breakdowns are Christian Doctrine Breakdowns. Scripture presents us with core truths that guide followers of Jesus. Accordingly, Christian Doctrine Breakdowns are meant to define and explain these core truths and discern where they originate in the Bible.
Greek Lessons:
The original language of the New Testament is Koine Greek. Dr. Joseph Matos is an expert in this field and is developing an entire side of the site that will be dedicated to helping visitors learn it and use knowledge of the language to enhance their reading of Scripture. Content, such as lessons and worksheets, will eventually be available to everyone who accesses journeytothetruth.org
Articles:
On our website, there will be articles on a variety of topics. They will follow the same structure as other content but cover broader topics. These can range from assessments of the other world religions, in comparison with Christianity, to articles on different arguments for God’s existence. But all topics will relate in some way to the Bible or the Christian worldview
Book Reviews:
Book reviews will be a unique form of content on our website because they will only contain one section of content. The purpose of these reviews will be to highlight truth that authors present in books on a wide spectrum of topics. Conversely, a book review will imply that we value a book’s contribution to a broader subject, but that does not mean we agree with everything the author believes or states in their writings. Our goal is to help visitors engage with and think critically about the truth that shapes our universe.
